Hi, I’m Ariana, and I want to welcome you to Functionally Simple Nutrition!

I am a Licensed and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN, LD) specializing in Functional & Integrative Medicine with a focus on weight management, gluten-free diets, mood disorders and sports nutrition.

Most of the recipes you will find on this page are paleo-friendly and gluten free.

In my “spare time”, I enjoy cooking, spending time outside with my dog, listening to podcasts, trying new activities and CrossFitting!

My Story

I have personally dealt with digestive issues for as long as I can remember but they worsened after heavy antibiotics to treat a myriad of infections while studying abroad after I graduated from high school. This was soon followed by sun poisoning and severe dehydration while camping in South America while on these high-dose antibiotics!  This all lead up to even more digestive issues as I entered my freshman year of college and was eating in dining halls, drinking lots of diet soda and caffeine to stay up studying followed by alcohol to celebrate the weekend. As I became increasingly bloated and uncomfortable, I felt sick, self-conscious and became more and more socially isolated. This also led to a cycle of disordered eating patterns and overexercise. I had countless procedures and tests done to rule out parasites, infections, or structural issues in my GI tract with no resolve. It wasn’t until I finally decided to take my health into my own hands when I wasn’t getting any answers. The more I read about gut healing and the impact of gluten, I decided to try a gluten-free diet and within a few weeks my symptoms began to decrease. Although I wasn’t yet 100%, I continued to do my own research and it eventually this led me to functional medicine. I was intrigued immediately by the philosophy of root cause medicine and have never looked back. The systems-based and personalized approach used in functional medicine has changed my life and I hope I can help to change yours as well.

My Approach

Functional Nutrition is about finding the right way for each of us as individuals to eat—using food to maximize the potential for health and reverse dysfunction or disease. There is no single “right diet” that applies to all of us. We have different genetic backgrounds, different preferences, and different lives. We all want to be healthy, but most of us haven’t figured out just how to make food and dietary patterns serve that goal. Functional Nutrition offers the concepts, strategies, and tools to make that happen!
